The partner organisations of the European project `MovingON´ have held two online training sessions aimed at professionals who work in the field of juvenile justice, among them three people from Fundación Diagrama. The first training session delved into the Participative Evaluation Methodology, while the second meeting focused on the preparation of workshops about crime and violence prevention in the community environment.
The European project ‘MovingON - Moving from conflict to participation: How can justice-involved youth participate in society and decision-making processes that affect them?’ has organised two train-the-trainers sessions. These meetings, held online at an international level, have the main objective of training the teams of each partner organisation of MovingON to be able to promote the autonomy, agency and social commitment of the young people they work with in their countries. This is the case of Fundación Diagrama in Spain, which develops this project alongside entities from Portugal, The Netherlands, Greece, Romania and Italy.
Three Diagrama professionals have participated in these working sessions, belonging to the Research and Development Department, the Socio-Labour Insertion Support Programme (PAIS) and the Open Environment Monitoring and Intervention Programme of the Community of Madrid. The last two of these are projects dependent on the Agency for Re-education and Reinsertion of Young Offenders (ARRMI) of the Madrid Government.
In the first session, facilitated by the NGO Stitching 180 (The Netherlands), the teams of partner organisations explored in depth the Participatory Evaluation Methodology. This approach understands evaluation as a continuous and transversal learning process, allowing the systematic collection of the children's opinions to adapt the activities to their needs and real experiences.
On its part, the second training day, led by the NGO Aproximar (Portugal), focused on the preparation of workshops that this group of professionals will carry out with the young people about crime and violence prevention in their communities. This previous preparation is fundamental to align the teams and make sure that the didactic resources are used with flexibility according to the local specificities.
To this end, they received practical information about how to structure the content, integrate evaluative methodologies and other techniques to allow the participation of the young people. One of these techniques is VideoVoice, in which the children will use cameras to record videos about their environment, expressing their opinions about different themes.
The evaluation of the group of professionals has been very positive, highlighting that the exchange of knowledge and experiences facilitates close ties and coordination between the partner organisations of MovingON. Thanks to this shared effort, the project will be able to contribute towards encouraging a culture of participation and of improvement of the social cohesion among the youth.
