Start of the ‘MovingON’ project about the promotion of youth participation among children in conflict with the law

The aim of this initiative, coordinated by the Portuguese NGO Aproximar and with Fundación Diagrama as partner, is to analyse how justice-involved and at-risk youth can participate in society and the decision making processes that affect them. The first multinational project meeting took place in Cascais (Portugal) in January. In this meeting, partners outlined the project’s upcoming actions.

On the 8th and 9th of January, Fundación Diagrama took part in the first multinational partner meeting of the European project ‘MovingON: Moving from conflict to participation', that took place in Cascais (Portugal). Representatives of the nine partner organisations —from Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece, Romania and the Netherlands— participated in this meeting.

The objective of the ‘MovingON´ project is to enable justice-involved and at-risk youth to participate and become actively involved in society and decision-making processes that affect them. Its aim is to encourage their awareness, commitment, participation and agency, contributing towards the improvement of youth crime prevention policies, as well as the wellbeing and cohesion of society.

The initiative is co-financed by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union and coordinated by Aproximar – Cooperativa de Solidariedade Social  (Portugal). Alongside Fundación Diagrama, the other partner organisations of the project are 180º F and Stichting wijkvennootschap Agniese (Netherlands), Center for Promoting Lifelong Learning and the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection (Romania), The Cascais Municipal Chamber (Portugal), IASIS (Greece), and A Rocca (Italy).

Primera reunión transnacional del proyecto MovingON

These organisations devoted this first meeting to make a breakdown of the actions that will be developed during the 24-month duration of the project, and to define the first activities to be carried out. Among these is the development of a guide to boost participation of justice-involved and at-risk youth, the adaptation of a training pack about youth crime prevention initiatives, and a trip for the young people involved in the project to The Hague (Netherlands) in order to share their experiences and visit European institutions.
During this first meeting, partners visited the ‘TAKE.it – Talent and art with creativity and entrepreneurship’ project, aimed at young people from deprived areas of Cascais, in which they can develop their artistic creativity and professional pathways.

On its part, Fundación Diagrama has created a web section in Spanish and in English to spread the information, results and final products of the `MovingON´ project. This section will be expanded as these updates are incorporated, while also gathering the news that the project generates.
