Programme for the promotion of active and healthy ageing in rural areas

Throughout 2025, Fundación Diagrama is carrying out the Programme for the promotion of active and healthy ageing: A comparative study on the actions of the Third Sector of Social Action in Spain and third countries in rural areas, financed by the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and 2030 Agenda.

This project seeks to analyse the actions of the Third Sector of Social Action in promoting active and healthy ageing in rural areas of third countries (Iceland, Norway, and the United Kingdom) and of Spain. It hopes to generate inspiring learning that can be applied and adapted to the Spanish context.

Objectives

The general aim of this programme is to broaden the knowledge of the Third Sector of Social Action in Spain about the promotion of active and healthy ageing in rural areas. Its specific objectives are:

  1. To compare actions by the Third Sector of Social Action in Spain and in third countries to promote active and healthy ageing in rural areas.
  2. To analyse best practices established by the Third Sector of Social Action in Spain and in third countries for promoting active and healthy ageing in rural areas.
  3. To consider the adaptation of international best practices in this field.
  4. To analyse the response of the Third Sector of Social Action to global and international challenges in the promotion of active and healthy ageing in rural areas.
  5. To analyse the impact of a gender perspective on the practices of promoting active and healthy ageing in rural areas.

Who it is aimed at

The main beneficiaries of this programme are the entities of the Third Sector of Social Action, as well as the professionals and volunteers who provide services to older people within these entities. Older people will be the indirect beneficiaries of this programme.

Results

The primary result of the study will be a report analysing, in depth, actions to promote active and healthy ageing in rural areas carried out by the Third Sector of Social Action in Spain and in three countries (Iceland, Norway, and the United Kingdom).

The results will be shared during an event to showcase Best Practices and in a webinar aimed at professionals and volunteers at the Third Sector of Social Action, as well as through audiovisual material created and shared on Fundación Diagrama's website and social networks.
